If your eyelids are baggy and you feel that you always look tired and older than you actually are, you might benefit from eyelid surgery. Time and heredity can contribute to unattractive eyelids, and loose skin on your upper eyelids can make it difficult to see. Eyelid surgery, also referred to as blepharoplasty, removes excess skin and fat and leaves behind a smoother and younger looking appearance.
You might choose to have your upper lids done or both your upper and lower lids. During the procedure, your Orange County surgeon will make an incision in the fold of your upper eyelids or in the lash line of your lower eyelids. The procedure is sometimes performed with a brow lift.
Can I benefit from eyelid surgery?
To find out if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery, schedule a time to talk with one of our Orange County surgeons about your expectations. The doctor will help you understand what eyelid surgery can accomplish for you. In general, you might be a fit for eyelid surgery if any of the following apply to you:
- Your eyelids are sagging, causing you to consistently look tired or older
- Your eyelids are baggy or puffy
What can I expect after the surgery?
After your surgery, your eyes will be tight and sore. Your Orange County surgeon will show you how to clean the eye area effectively and safely. Cold compresses will help with the swelling, which will improve after a couple of weeks. You may notice that your eyes are extra sensitive to light for a while and tear up easily, so wear sunglasses when you go outside in order to protect the area. You can also talk to your doctor about which pain medication will be most effective for any discomfort that you experience.
