A tummy tuck at our Orange County center will leave you with increased confidence and better fitting clothes. The procedure, also called an abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin tissue from your abdominal area that may be present due to age, weight loss, or a previous pregnancy.
The procedure itself takes about one to a few hours. Depending on how much tissue and skin needs to be adjusted, your surgeon might choose to do either a partial tuck or a full tummy tuck. The incision can be small or from hip to hip. During the surgery itself, one of our anesthesiologists will keep you comfortable.
Can I benefit from a tummy tuck?
To find out if you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck, schedule a time to talk with one of our Orange County surgeons about your unique situation and needs. The doctor will talk with you about your goals and expectations. In general, you might be a fit for a tummy tuck if any of the following apply to you:
- You have excess abdominal fat
- The skin on your stomach is loose or sagging following weight loss or pregnancy
- The skin on your stomach has become loose with age
If you still plan to lose a considerable amount of weight, you should delay having a tummy tuck until you’ve reached your weight loss goal. Otherwise, you’ll be left with loose skin all over again.
What can I expect after the procedure?
After your procedure, your abdominal area will feel tight and swollen for several days. You’ll be given a special bandage to wear that will help keep the swelling down, and your surgeon will talk with you about pain medication that you can take. Avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks following your surgery. You will notice that the scars you have from your incisions will fade after several months. Be sure to maintain your weight and exercise regularly after your surgery to keep your results.
