If you find that your breasts are less than perky, whether it’s due to weight loss and excess skin, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or just heredity, you might benefit from a breast lift. The procedure, also called a mastopexy, often involves the removal of sagging skin and the elevation of your nipples for the appearance of uplifted breasts. The breasts will be raised and your breast tissue reshaped. The procedure will take only a few hours, and one of our Orange County anesthesiologists will be available to keep you comfortable.
In general, there are different techniques for varying types of breast lifts. A full breast lift is used for larger breasts and dramatic stages of sagging, but there are also less invasive methods for younger women or those with small breasts that involve smaller incisions. Sometimes, a breast lift and breast implants are provided at the same time.
Can I benefit from a breast lift?
To find out if you are a good candidate for a breast lift, schedule a time to talk with one of our Orange County surgeons about your unique situation and needs. The doctor will examine you and give you realistic expectations about what you can do. In general, you might be a fit for a breast lift if any of the following apply to you:
- Your breasts are sagging as a result of weight loss, breastfeeding, or pregnancy
- One of your breasts hangs lower than the other
What can I expect after the surgery?
After your surgery, you’ll likely be bruised and swollen for a few days. You might also experience some numbness. Your Orange County surgeon will talk with you ahead of time about which medications are available to keep you comfortable and when it is best for you to return to work. Avoid heavy lifting for four to six weeks following your surgery.
