We offer Lap-Band surgery at our Orange County center for patients who are unable to lose weight with diet and exercise. The procedure involves the placement of a band around the upper part of your stomach, creating a small pocket that allows you to feel full from eating less food. Once you heal from the initial surgery four to six weeks later, the band will be inflated and adjusted for weight loss. The band is adjustable with the use of saline, allowing your doctor to modify the procedure for you and maintain its effectiveness long after you leave our outpatient center.
Can I benefit from Lap-Band surgery?
To find out if you are a good candidate for Lap-Band surgery, schedule a time to talk with one of our Orange County surgeons. The doctor will help you determine if Lap-Band surgery is the best route to take in order for you to achieve weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. In general, you might be a fit for Lap-Band surgery if any of the following apply to you:
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher
- You have health issues as a result of your weight, like hypertension
What can I expect after the surgery?
After your surgery, you’ll be limited to food items like broth and popsicles. As your healing progresses, you will eventually be able to start eating small meals. It is important for your health and progress to follow your doctor’s eating instructions very carefully. Your Orange County doctor will see you regularly to monitor your progress and will adjust the ring’s circumference with the use of saline according to how much weight you are losing. You will likely need help around the house doing light tasks, so be sure to have trusted friends or family members available to help you when needed.
